Gift ideas for car lovers: nine that aren't another keyring
From a track day to a torque wrench to their own car on the wall — honest gift ideas for people who love cars, including the ones we don't make.

Buying for a car lover is harder than it looks. They already own the obvious things, and anything for the car itself they would rather choose themselves. Here are the ideas that actually land — including several we have nothing to do with.
For the driver
- A track day or driving experience. The one gift about driving rather than the car. Check what their licence and insurance allow first.
- An advanced driving course: skid control, winter driving or a first track licence. Useful, and remembered for years.
- A planned road trip. A route, a booked hotel at the end of a great road and a full tank. It costs less than it sounds and means more.
For the car
- A proper detailing kit — snow foam, good microfibre towels, a quality wax — or a professional detail if you would rather skip the guesswork.
- A dashcam. Practical rather than exciting, and the first thing they will thank you for after a near miss.
- The tool they keep borrowing: a torque wrench, a cordless impact driver, a good inspection lamp.
For the wall and the shelf
- A scale model of their car: 1:18 for detail, 1:43 for a full shelf. Rare generations can be hard to find.
- A book about their marque. Every serious brand has a definitive history, and most popular models have a buyer's guide.
- A relief of their own car. This is the one we make: their exact model and generation, sculpted at 50 × 40 cm and framed, on the wall instead of in a box.

How to choose
Ask whether they love driving or love their car. Drivers remember experiences; owners love things that are about the car itself. If you cannot decide, start from the car: its exact model and year make any gift personal.
The best car gift is the one they would never buy for themselves.
